At The Apurva Kempinski Bali, heritage unfolds through a refined musical revival. L’Atelier by Cyril Kongo reawakens its acclaimed cultural series with renewed depth.
This latest edition honours Indonesia’s layered musical legacy across generations. Previous editions traced classical, jazz, and popular repertoires through carefully curated anthologies.
A Timeless Symphony, Reimagined
Presented as A Timeless Symphony: Indonesian Treasure, the programme adopts an elevated narrative. Maestro Budi Utomo Prabowo anchors the artistic direction. His earlier work shaped the 2013 Anthology of Indonesian Classical Music. Alongside, composer Aksan Sjuman contributes a contemporary orchestral perspective.
Together, both reinterpret treasured compositions with nuanced modern expression. The ensemble Nada 1928 delivers refined and expressive renditions.
An Intimate Journey Through Sound and Legacy
Set within the elevated bar, the evening evokes Indonesia’s 1950s sonic elegance. An immersive format blends performance with reflective storytelling. A curated dialogue unveils historical and cultural layers behind each piece.
Insights emerge through conversations led by Aksan Sjuman and Budi Utomo Prabowo. Meanwhile, producer Andreas Arianto orchestrates a ten song, jazz inflected sequence. Musicians and vocalists enrich the atmosphere with textured, live interpretations.
The programme draws from archives by Jakarta Arts Council. Published in 2013 and 2017, these volumes document Indonesia’s evolving musical identity. Contributors include Aisha Sudiarso-Pletscher and Anusirwan, among other cultural figures. Collectively, these works preserve a living narrative of Indonesia’s enduring soundscape.
