The Royal Rijsttafel at The Café Lotus Ubud

For more than four decades, The Café Lotus Ubud has served its signature rijsttafel beside the same lotus pond in central Ubud. Meaning “rice table” in Dutch, this dining tradition brings together many small dishes, allowing guests to experience a variety of Indonesian flavours in one sitting.

At the centre of the experience is the Lotus Royal Rijsttafel, featuring 11 dishes for a minimum of two guests and served family-style on the terrace overlooking the pond. Rooted in Bali’s Base Genep spice blend, the menu includes Sate Lilit, Babi Kecap, Gulai Kambing, ceremonial yellow rice, and Balinese sweets.

The dining experience can continue after dinner with Balinese dance performances at Pura Taman Kemuda Saraswati, held six nights a week from 19:30. Performances include Joged, Ramayana Ballet, and Legong, while tickets for diners are available at IDR 100,000 net per person, with the programme continuing since 2005.

Following a thoughtful revitalisation in 2025, The Café Lotus refreshed its pavilion and introduced a new lesehan dining experience while retaining its ironwood beams, sandstone carvings, and views across the lotus pond. The combination of Indonesian cuisine, Balinese performances, and a historic Ubud setting keeps the experience closely connected to local culture.
