The Meru Sanur and Bali Beach Hotel, The Heritage Collection, present Heroes, Gods and Guardians. The cultural exhibition celebrates the living traditions of Java, Bali, Madura and Lombok.
Launched on 11 September 2026, the exhibition explores Indonesia’s rich heritage through mask dance, sacred storytelling and visual arts. It also showcases Balinese Lontar manuscripts, which preserve generations of cultural knowledge.
Developed with Samsara Living Museum, Dwiva Art, Museum Nasional Indonesia and Indonesia Heritage Legacy, the exhibition reveals the symbolism behind traditional Indonesian arts. It also explores their spiritual significance and the stories they carry across generations.
A special focus honours Professor I Made Bandem, a maestro of Balinese mask dance. The exhibition also highlights the enduring wisdom preserved in Lontar manuscripts.

The launch at Sukarno Lounge featured a Gender performance, a Lontar reading by Ida Bagus Made Gunawan, and cultural discussions with heritage experts and practitioners. Speakers included Gus Agung of Samsara Living Museum, Iskandar Eko Priyotomo of the Bali Cultural Heritage Preservation Office, and art historian Bruce W. Carpenter. The discussions emphasized cultural preservation, education, and engaging younger generations through meaningful storytelling.
On display until February 2027, Heroes, Gods and Guardians invites visitors to discover Indonesia’s cultural identity and artistic traditions. Guests can also explore Balinese living heritage through an immersive visit to Samsara Living Museum in Karangasem, available at an additional charge. The initiative reflects The Meru Sanur and Bali Beach Hotel’s commitment to connecting guests with Indonesia’s enduring cultural legacy.
